Driving
Addendum

I figured there would be more peeves out there and a couple more came in thanks to my brothers Rich (R) and Bob (Bob-o) so I thought I’d add them here since the other relevant tripe came in the previous post. However, any others will be added at the end of the Driving section and I will dutifully proceed to Men vs. Women in Post #21.

4-Way STOP (thanks to Bob-o)
You’re coming to a 4-way STOP and another car is there several seconds before you reach the intersection. They wait until you get there before they proceed. Granted, if you were not too far off, in their defense, they may want to be sure you will stop as the sign indicates. However, when the distance is appreciable, the question remains as to why that driver remained so long at the STOP sign. This is similar to approaching an intersection where a driver making a right on red waits until you are almost on them to finally turn. My guess? Inability to make proper judgement on distance and speed of the oncoming vehicle.

Private drives
Drivers who back out of or drive into traffic from a private drive. This includes your driveway or the parking lot of a business. They’re all the same and the applicable regulation is the same – that driver does not have the right of way. So, beware, because there are times when they think they do.

Letting others into traffic lines
Somewhat affiliated with the previous note is the practice of letting drivers from private drives, or even public thoroughfares, into traffic. In both cases, this is a courtesy. Although the action may be well-intended, it can cause many problems especially where there is traffic flow versus a line of traffic that has stopped. The most dangerous action happens when there is more than one lane of traffic and one of the lane occupants fails to realize that a car is being let into or across traffic lanes.
